Community Connections

Our Community Connections programs focus on outreach to the community, safety-based initiatives, and community engagement.

Neighborhood Safe Streets for Seniors (P)

Family Connections will conduct a pedestrian safety education campaign targeted at monolingual Spanish and Cantonese-speaking seniors in the Portola and Excelsior neighborhoods. The Portola and Excelsior neighborhoods are high risk and injury corridors comprised of highly trafficked areas with heavy use by buses, cars, cyclists and pedestrians. In addition, both neighborhoods have significant numbers of senior residents. Twenty percent (20%) of Excelsior residents are over 60 years old; twenty-one percent (21%) in the Portola. This safety campaign will educate seniors including those who disabled on defensive pedestrian safety techniques. Through a series of workshops presented at various locations throughout the two neighborhoods, FC will collaborate with our longstanding partners including public libraries, senior centers and health providers NEMs, Silver Health Clinic, and Mission Neighborhood Health Center. In collaboration with Vision Zero, Walk SF, SFMTA, and other city initiatives we will also inform seniors of the upcoming transportation, street infrastructure and safety designs initiatives they can participate in and advocate for their concerns in the Portola and Excelsior.  All workshops, materials, and meetings will be provided with Spanish and Cantonese translation and interpretation to ensure information is accessible.
