Family Connections opened our doors in 1993 in response to a survey of residents in the Portola neighborhood that overwhelmingly expressed a need for family support services. In 2003, the organization expanded our effective philosophy and model of family support to the Excelsior neighborhood. To build the Excelsior site and programs, we conducted a needs assessment and coupled its results with demographic data that unmistakably indicated that the Excelsior, with its large concentration of low-income families and scarcity of family support services, was in need of a comprehensive family resource center.
Recognizing the importance and volume of services being provided in both neighborhoods, in 2018 we changed our name to Family Connections Centers. In Spring of 2019, 5016 Mission St became the permanent home of the Excelsior Family Connections Center.
